Research Interests

My primary focus is to develop generally capable intelligent assessment models of motor function for neurodegenerative diseases (such as Parkinson’s disease), where the key challenge is the spatial-temporal fine-grained analysis of human actions in medical videos. To tackle this grand challenge, my research efforts span graph neural networks, fine-grained classification and stable learning.

Current Research Topics

1) Video-based intelligent assessment of Parkinson’s disease
The MDS-UPDRS is the gold standard for clinical diagnosis and evaluation of Parkinson's disease, and hence intelligent assessment based on this scale is very crucial. We expect to develop an MDS-UPDRS-based intelligent assessment system for Parkinson's disease videos, which can perform automated and objective five-point scoring for motion tasks in videos through spatial-temporal fine-grained feature mining technologies. Currently, I have realized the automated scoring of several motion tasks, including pronation-supination movements of hands (TCSVT 2023), hand movements (MedIA 2022), gait (TMM 2022), toe tapping (TCSVT 2022), arising from chair (TCSVT 2022), leg agility (TNSRE 2020), and so on.

2) Video-based intelligent assessment of cervical dystonia
The TWSTRS is most frequently used to assess cervical dystonia in clinical practice. Due to the lack of experienced doctors and the subjectivity of visual observation assessment scheme, we expect to develop a TWSTRS-based intelligent assessment system for cervical dystonia videos, which can automatically track the patient’s face and body in videos, calculate and analyze the relevant angle parameters, and obtain the torticollis severity scores in the TWSTRS.
